French Blue Copper Marans
Do you love dark chocolate colored eggs, and a stunningly colourful, friendly flock? If you do, then this wonderful breed is for you! This breed, which originated in western France in the town of Marans, is best known for its dark chocolate colored eggs. It is a fast grower and does well in damp areas, having been developed in a marshy portion of France. The original French birds have feathered legs, but this characteristic has been bred out of the British and many American lines. Marans have been prized for years by French chefs for their exceptional eggs as well as meat quality. The darkest eggs are always laid at the beginning of the laying cycle. Then they gradually lighten, but will return to very dark after a period of rest.
